Janis Sogn Surmon was my first cousin. Her dad and my mom were brother and sister. As you can imagine, we grew up together, first attending Ardenwald Grade School, then Milwaukie JHS and Milwaukie High. We had so much fun together doing family activities like picnics at Wilsada and camping trips to Kah-Nee-Ta Warm Springs. Her sister Nancy and my sister Judy were also close in age, so we were a happy foursome. Janis also had a brother Richard, who came along later. He now lives at the coast and Nancy lives in McMinnville. We all miss Janis and wish she were here to enjoy senior years with us. She was a highly-respected teacher at a Lebanon, Oregon school and everyone loved her. Janis was blessed with a son and daughter.
